Handcrafted, reclaimed-wood frames

The vicinity of Vågå has some of the highest concentration of well-maintained, protected wooden buildings in Norway – old farmhouse complexes, barns, sheds, stalls, garners, homes and cabins. However, one can also find buildings that are weatherworn and abandoned. After moving to this region, Orsolya straight away recognised the potential in utilising the old wood that was left behind for decay. She began to reclaim it by creating interior products and picture frames in the first place. With the support from local farmers – who made access to the partly collapsed buildings available for her – Orsolya’s garage quickly filled with old wood.

After cleaning and sorting the wood, the creative part of the work begins, with picking the right material and composing each individual frame. The dismantled, old wood panels have different width and thickness along their length and are often curved. The front and often one side of the panels are kept intact, while the other sides are processed (cut and sanded) until the pieces are even and can be joined at the corners. The next task is to take pictures of the frames themselves to show  their true colours; and finally, choosing the right photograph for each unique frame from the photographers’s archive. The result is a beautiful combination of photography and handcrafted wood frame – both inspired by nature from the Norwegian mountains!

Prints selected for the handcrafted frames

The prints selected for the handcrafted frames are part of our limited edition fine art prints (see Info | Production and shipping) and are normally produced with a 5cm wide white border around the photographs (please note: in some frames we use prints without white border). Photographs are printed on matt fine art paper and are mounted on a 5mm thick foam board.

We cannot ship framed prints with glass. However, if you pick up your print in Vågå, we can order and place glass in your frame at an additional cost.
